Twelve Horizontal Zones

Ancient empirical astrologers discovered a remarkable fact: twelve, horizontal ecliptic-linked body zones of zodiacal influence overlay the human form. When planets tenant these zodiacally based zones at birth, it means stuff! And when current transits pass through these ‘signs’ in the ecliptic plane, their correlative body zones respond to the temperature, color ray, speed, and moisture level of that specific planet. Most of the time, the response is negligible or brings minor physical changes. For instance, a strong “watery” influence might express itself as an encounter with a delicious watermelon! But, as medical astrologers all know, results can sometimes be alarming.

In the West, we are more familiar with the Chinese acupuncture meridians, and perhaps the more modern nerve-based dermatome maps.  When viewing illustrative depictions of traditional ‘Zodiacal Man’, one seldom “groks” the existence of the twelve, distinctly horizontal zones.

This is not because they aren’t there, but because the illustrations were not designed to clearly display this fact. To remedy this significant problem, I’ve designed the first new Homo Signorus in two thousand years, aka “Zodiacal Human”, with twelve horizontal zones clearly shown; as well as history’s first known lateral view of the system.

These twelve horizontal ‘slices’ do not interfere with acupuncture points, dermatomes, spinal nerve pathways, or any other system one prefers to use. All these networks exist within the framework of twelve sign-associated zones. Neither does a nerve origination point for any of these twelve body zones replace the sign rulership of that zone to the auspices of the origination zone! The twelve, horizontal zones deserve our respect as a framework in their own right.

Zodiacal Human: How to Envision

The twelve zodiac signs comprise a 360˚ circle of seasonal time (from Earth’s viewpoint), as well as of celestial space. Picture this circle-cycle as a rope tied in a circle. The circle encompasses 360˚ (all true circles are 360˚).

Now, picture the linear body of a standing human. Now envision this person’s linear body as a single, straight line of 360˚, extending from head to toe: (0˚ being the crown of the head and 360˚ at the tip of the toe).

Returning to our zodiac sign “rope” circle of signs: Divide this rope into twelve equal sections: the “zodiac signs”. Now, snip the circle at Aries, so that our circular rope dangles down and becomes a straight line. Place 0˚(first degree of Aries) at the crown of the head, and you have the system!

Because we have twelve signs, we now have twelve “Body Zones”, each spanning exactly 30˚ degrees. In this manner, each of the twelve signs correlates with one body zone. True, some zones are longer on the body than others, but this works well in practice. I consider this anomaly just another empirical discovery of the ancient physician-astrologers!

New Language: Many medical practitioners would recoil from using body zones named “Aries”, or “Taurus”. To assist mental access to this ancient discovery, I prefer to substitute “Body Zone 1”, for Aries,  “Body  Zone 2” for Taurus, and so forth. Astrologers can, of course, continue to use their more romantic, original names.

Uses

Awareness of the Twelve Horizontal Zones empowers the astrologically aware health practitioner in multitudinous ways.  Cross-checking symptoms to horoscope allows clarity of insight into the seat of illness and its cause, plus timing and prognosis. Foreknowledge is the handmaiden of preemption. Naturally, a certain degree of skill is required.

Appreciation

Who first observed the imprinted circle of the tropical zodiac upon the linear body of the human being? This ancient genius bequeathed to humankind a golden key to healing!  It works, and yet, it still needs work. May the medical astrologers of today and the future continue to research, observe, polish and build upon the edifice of this significant ancient medical discovery.
