In honor of International Women’s Day, I’ve been asked to share my favorite astrological and herbal influences from generations past who just happened to be women. Here they are!

Evangeline Adams, 1868 - 1932, Image Credit: Arnold Genthe/ Library of Congress

A cousin of President Adams whose outstanding 1914 courtroom demonstration of real astrological skill legalized astrology in New York! Tried for “fortune telling”, the astonished judge acquitted her on all counts with his famous, oft quoted praise that Adams had “raised astrology to the dignity of an exact science.” Adams had correctly described the drowning of the judge’s grandson when handed an anonymous chart! Evangeline was a primary mover in the popularization and knowledge of genuine astrology within the United States.

Frau Lili Kolisko, 1889 - 1976, Image Credit: Lili Kolisko Institute

The scientist who stunning photographic work provides us with perhaps our first visual proof of real time planetary influences. Following a tip from her illustrious teacher Rudolf Steiner, Kolisko tracked the influence of Lunar-Planet conjunctions on metals that were traditionally governed by said planet.

Juliette de Bairacli Levy, 1912-2009, Image Credit: American Botanical Council

The profound herbalist and ‘great soul’ who ran away with the Romany people, working to preserve and protect a vanishing veterinary herbalism, and publishing perhaps the first texts on herbal medicine for dogs and cats. She also developed new nutritional approaches to dog food - doubling the life span of some larger breeds. Her courageous, sweet, and amazing life story is captured in the film “Juliette of the Herbs”.
